Tour Itinerary

Embark on a 3-day adventure to Ban Gioc Waterfall and Ba Be Lake, exploring Northern Vietnam's stunning landscapes and rich culture. Visit historic sites, marvel at natural wonders, and cruise Ba Be Lake — with expert guides for a safe, memorable journey.
Day 1: Hanoi - Lang Son - Quang Uyen [L/D]
Highlights and activities: Chi Lang pass, Quy Mon Quan gate, Dong Khe battle site, ethnic villages, and a 3-5km walk

07:30 - 08:00am: Our tour guide will pick you up by car from your hotel in Hanoi's Old Quarter. We'll head towards Lang Son, driving about 3 hours in the direction of the Chinese border.

Explore Chi Lang Pass — a stunning 20km gorge nestled between two towering mountains. This historic site played a crucial role in Vietnam's past, known as the nation's strongest citadel, where many battles were fought and won against invading Chinese forces, dating back to 981 AD. You'll have about an hour to explore the legendary Quy Mon Quan Gate — also known as the "Gate of Monsters," symbolizing the fierce resistance of the Vietnamese warriors.
After a traditional lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, we'll continue through the pass to visit the Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe — the site of the first battle of the Indochina Wars in 1950. This historic victory by the Viet Minh marked a turning point in the fight for independence.

In the evening, you'll enjoy a cozy dinner and an overnight stay at a homestay run by a welcoming Nung family — offering a unique glimpse into the local culture and way of life.
Day 2: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall – Ba Be National Park [B/L/D]
Highlights and activities: Ban Gioc waterfall, Nguom Ngao cave, Ba Be National Park, ethnic villages.

After enjoying breakfast at the homestay, you will depart for Trung Khanh which lies right on the border with China. Here you will have another chance to meet and interact with the local Nung people living in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village famous for its
traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools made here are an integral part of the lifestyle which is evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields.
Nestled amongst these amazing landscapes is the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall which spans over 300 meters, split half and half between Vietnam and China. You’ll get some time here to simply take in the amazing atmosphere surrounding the falls, which presents an excellent opportunity for some fantastic photography.
Once you’ve finished at the falls, it’s time to head over to Nguom Ngao Cave, for a very different, but no less impressive natural wonder. The cave stretches for 2,144 meters underground and is brimming with incredible stalactites and stalagmites.
You will then return to Cao Bang town and head down the “snake pass” to Ba Be Lake, where you will stay overnight in a homestay constructed in traditional Tay fashion and owned and operated by a local Tay family. Here you can relax and unwind from the day and enjoy a delicious and authentic home cooked meal.
Day 3: Ba Be Lake - Hanoi [B/L]
After breakfast, you will board a boat to cross Ba Be Lake to its northern shore. From here, your journey to explore the heart of Ba Be National Park begins with a hike through the dense rainforest. As you follow the lake's edge, you will visit a prehistoric cave dating back 500 million years, hidden within an ancient forest of rare, solid hardwood trees.
Continuing the hike, you will arrive at an observation station — a perfect spot to watch the diverse bird species and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of nature. The adventure then takes you to An Ma Temple, a sacred site for the Tay people, dedicated to the snake god and generals of the Mac dynasty.
After the hike, you’ll have free time on the boat to either relax and admire the breathtaking karst mountain scenery surrounding the lake or take a refreshing swim in Ba Be's crystal-clear waters.
For those who prefer not to join the hike, you can stay on the boat to explore Widow Island or browse local shops along the way.

11:30 - 12:00: As the journey comes to an end, you will return to Ba Be Jungle Houses for a cozy lunch before heading back to Hanoi. Along the way, there will be a stop at a lush tea plantation nestled among rolling hills — a perfect photo opportunity.

18:30-19:00: Upon arrival in Hanoi, it’s time to say goodbye, carrying with you unforgettable memories and unique experiences.
